Dad, saving the day. He was the third one to try pinning on the boutineer. Mom and Heather also tried.

What a night March 27, 2009 was for Kaelei when she attended the Hunter High Junior Prom. A few weeks ago, Kaelei wasn't even sure she was going to get asked to go to this prestigious dance and this time she absolutely refused to ask a boy to a "boy's choice" dance.
Barely over a week prior, she had pretty much given in to the fact that she wasn't going and was planning to be home watching a movie with the family. To top it off, she came home from school saying that she had been nominated for prom queen. Deb (Mom) asked her how many girls had been nominated and she said "lots". We both laughed a little and said it wouldn't be good if she won and wasn't even there to know it. She laughed again and said, "Yeah, right. I go to Hunter High, remember--a 5A school."
As it turned out, with a few strings pulled, she did get a date with a week to spare. And just a little secret, she happened to get asked by a boy she wanted to date since she turned 16 (a fellow swim team/water polo player). Luckily, she already had a prom dress that mom bought two years previous on sale for $30.
So, on Saturday morning, a group of 16 kids headed to a bounce house for their morning activity. All of them got roughed up and came home with bloody elbows, but because most were waterpolo players, it didn't phase them. Later that afternoon, Kaelei went over to our neighbors house to get her hair done. Around 5:30, Cam, her date, showed up. They did the whole flower exchange thing, and you can see by the look on Kaelei's face in the pictures above, it didn't go smooth. Her dad finally got the flower pinned on Cam's jacket and Kaelei said later it was the only flower that stayed on all night long. Good job Dad!
About 10:30 that night, mom got a text from a strange phone number. (Kaelei doesn't like to take a phone that might interrupt her date, so she didn't have hers.) The text said, "Hi mom, this is Kaelei. I just won Prom Queen!!! Well, you can imagine how shocked, surprised, and excited her parents were, not to mention Kaelei. We never thought an A student, never-been-kissed, "goody, goody", waterpolo player could possible get voted prom queen. Of course, she had a hard time going to bed that night cause she didn't want the day to end. Congratulations Kaelei!
p.s. Ironically, two days after getting asked to the Hunter High Jr. Prom, another boy asked Kaelei to go to his Jr. Prom at Murray High School. Nothing like going from no date to two in two days!
